A Study of construction of teaching staff based on new engineering background

Abstract: The new engineering teaching aims to improve the quality of engineering personnel training in our country. However, at the beginning of the implementation of the plan, some universities found that the engineering practice ability of teachers is very low, especially young teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasized on building a contingent of high-level engineering education teachers, especially to improve the engineering practice ability of teachers.

The new engineering project has distinctive characteristics of engineering practice. For teachers who are involved in new engineering courses, they need to act both "teacher" and "engineer". This topic aims to explore and establish a reasonable and effective training system based on the needs of new engineering training. This work could provide some useful practical operation strategies for engineering colleges.

Teachers are the basis of talent training. However, many college teachers have misconception on "Theory over practice, research over design" for a long time. Thus leading to the practical ability and engineering quality of most teachers are very weak. The faculty is a major obstacle to the implementation of new engineering projects. Cultivation needs a team of high quality engineering education teachers.

For a long time, by the restriction of our national economic system, the development of engineering specialty not only depends on the optimization of curriculum system and teaching content, but also depends on a variety of relatively independent resources. Currently, teachers are still equipped according to their specialties, courses, funding, experiment equipment, and so on. Thus, This characteristic determines to a great extent that the sharing of most engineering professional resources is not good at present.

Teachers are always lack of corporate work background, and research topics are tend to focus on basic theories, this has great influence on the development of engineering education at present. Meanwhile, the number of engineering students in the colleges is much higher than the number of the teachers. Teachers are burdened with heavy teaching tasks, which is different between the research-oriented and teaching -research-oriented universities. Teachers have no time to improve their engineering ability, pay more effort on the teaching, no time for scientific research. Thus, Neither teaching nor research is at its best level. At present, colleges and universities are gonging to check the scientific research, papers and teaching in the annual work performance very detailed. But the workload of contacting enterprises and seeking resources was not included in the assessment. This has become an important factor that restricts the enthusiasm of teachers to expand engineering education resources.

School practice teaching is one of the convenient channels to cultivate and improve the engineering practice ability of young teachers. Colleges and universities should require all the young teachers to do the practice in the front-line, connecting with experienced experimenters and practical problem to develop the professional skills and comprehensive ability and promote the improvement of young teachers' practical ability. Young teachers should also delve more into the own field of engineering and industry production reality, combine one's own research topic or research with guiding design. Make the system and content of practical teaching link have the real engineering practicality. Nowadays, there are many competitions for college students in our country, such as Mechanical innovation design competition for college students, Mathematic Contest in Modeling, Electronic Design Competition for College Students, Undergraduate Programming Competition, and so on. These competitions reflect the frontier development level of the profession, and closely combined with teaching practice, it is a good opportunity for young teachers to improve their practical ability. The competition not only exercised the students' comprehensive ability, but also has the very big promotion to elevate the instructor's teaching level and the practice ability enhancement. Young teachers should take an active part in guiding college students' science and technology competitions to strengthen their engineering practice ability.
