  • 简介:Forecastingtherapidintensificationoftropicalcyclonesoveroffshoreareasremainsdifficult.Inthisarticle,theWeatherResearchandForecast(WRF)modelwasusedtostudytherapidintensificationofTyphoonHaikui(1211)offtheshoreofChina.Aftersuccessfulsimulationoftheintensitychangeandtrackofthetyphoon,themodeloutputwasfurtheranalyzedtodeterminethemechanismoftherapidchangeinintensity.Theresultsindicatedthataremarkableincreaseinlow-levelmoisturetransportationtowardtheinnercore,favorablelarge-scalebackgroundfieldwithlow-levelconvergence,andhigh-leveldivergenceplayedkeyrolesintherapidintensificationofTyphoonHaikuiinwhichhigh-leveldivergencecouldbeusedasanindicatorfortherapidintensitychangeofTyphoonHaikuiapproximately6hinadvance.AnanalysisofthetyphoonstructurerevealedthatTyphoonHaikuiwasstructurallysymmetricduringtherapidintensificationandtherangeoftheeyewallwassmallinthelowlevelbutextendedoutwardinthehighlevel.Inaddition,theverticallyascendingmotion,theradialandtangentialalongwindspeedsincreasedwithincreasingtyphoonintensity,especiallyduringtheprocessofrapidintensification.Furthermore,theintensityofthewarmcoreofthetyphoonincreasedduringtheintensificationprocesswiththewarmcoreextendingoutwardandtowardthelowerlayer.Alloftheabovestructuralchangescontributedtothemaintenanceanddevelopmentoftyphoonintensity.
