Segmentingacomplex3Dsurfacemodelintosomevisuallymeaningfulsub-partsisoneofthefundamentalproblemsindigitalgeometryprocessing.Inthispaper,anovelsegmentationapproachofpoint-sampledsurfacesisproposed,whichisbasedonthelevelsetevolutionscheme.Tosegmentthemodelsoastoalignthepatchboundarieswithhighcurvaturezones,thedrivenspeedfunctionforthezerolevelsetinsidenarrowbandisdefinedbytheextendedcurvaturefield,whichapproacheszerospeedasthepropagatingfrontapproacheshighcurvaturezone.Theeffectivenessoftheproposedapproachisdemonstratedbyourex-perimentalresults.Furthermore,twoapplicationsofmodelsegmentationareillustrated,suchaspiecewiseparameterizationandlocaleditingforpoint-sampledgeometry.
