Immisciblefluidflowisfrequentlyfoundinresourcerecoveryorsoilremediation.Theflowpatternintheporousmediaisaffectedbythewettabilityofporesurface.Inthisstudy,quartzsubstratesandmicrofluidicchipsaretreatedbysilicananoparticles(SNP)andtriethoxy(octyl)silane(TES)tofabricatethewater-wetandoil-wetsurfaces.Thewettabilityofthetreated-surfaceismeasuredintermofcontactangleforseveralcombinationsofsurroundingfluidandaliquiddroplet.Theeffectofthewettabilityonthefluidflowpatternisexploredbyinjectingoilandwateralternatelyintothesurface-treatedmicrofluidicchips.TheresultsrevealthattheSNP-coatedquartzsubstrateshowsstrongwater-wetpropertyandtheTEScoatingmakeswater-repellent/oil-wetsurfaces.Inaddition,itisfoundthatthemaximumandminimumoilandwatersaturationduringalternateinjectionofoilandwaterdependsonthesurfacewettabilityofthemicrofluidicchips.Thecharacteristicsofthepore-scalefluidflowpatternarealsodescribed.
