TheARGO-YBJexperimentispresentlyunderconstructionattheYangbaijinghighAltitudeComsmicRayLaboratory(4300ma.s.l).90KmNorthtoLhasa(Tibet,peolpl'sRepublicofChina)ARGO-YBJwillstudyfundamentalissuesincosmicrayandastroparticlephysicsbydetectingsmallsizeairshowers.Thedetectorcovers-71×74squaremeterswithasinglelayerofresistivePlateCounters(RPCs),surroundedbyaguardringpartiallyinstrumented.Anevent-drivendatacollectionschemeisimplementedbyusingacustombusprotocol./Keyfeaturesofthisarchitectureareblock-orienteddatatransferandread-outcycleslabeledbytriggernumber,HardwareenginesinbothmasterandDAQboardshandlebustransactionsandprovideeventbuilingcapability,achievingreal-timedataprocessingwithnosoftwareoverhead.InthispaperwepresentthehardwaredesignoftheARGOexperiment'sDAQwhichbenefitsfromtheflexiblearchitectureofin-systemreconfigurableFPGAs.Thedataacquistitionboardsspecificallydevelopedforthisapplicationwillbedescribed.
