Someauthorshavedevelopedafewmethodsofmeasuringwaveslopesbasedonlightrefraction,includingthemeasurementmethodviathedistributionoflightintensityorcolorunderwater.Anewmethodbasedonlightrefractionisspecifiedforthemeasurementofwavesurfaceelevationinwaveflumeviaimagingtechnology.Aplanepaintedwithblackandwhitestripesisputontheflumefloorasanindicationplane,whichcanbearrangedeasilyandcheaply.Comparedwiththepreviousmethods,thepresentmethodislesssensitivetothenoiseandnonlineareffectsofopticalprocess,whichcanbetakenasadigitalmethod.TheCCDcameraisfixedabovetheflumewithitsopticalaxisarrangedverticallytograbtheimagesofstripesmodulatedbythewavesurface.ThemodulatedvaluecanbecalculatedfromtheHilberttransform,andthenthewavesurfaceelevationcanbeobtained.Thealgorithmandexperimentalprocedurearespecifiedindetail,andsomeexperimentalresultsareprovidedtoshowthevalidityofthepresentmethod.
