TwelvespeciesofcrustaceanfromFujiancoastwereexaminedforlectinswithdifferentanimalerythrocytes.Serumextractsfromallof12speciesshowedagglutinatingactivityagainstatleasttwotypesoftheerythrocytesused,whichrevealedtheexistenceoflectinsinthesespecies.Therewerefivespecies(Penaeusjaponicus,Lophosquillacostata,Charybdisferiatus,Portunuspelagicus,Scyllaserrata)whoseserumscouldagglutinatealltheerythrocytestested.Thelowestserumproteinconcentrationrequiredtoproduceerythrocytesagglutinationvariedremarkably,rangingfrom0.7μg/mLto8080μg/mL.ThestrongestactivitywasshownintheagglutinationofrabbiterythrocytebyserumofPenaeusvanaminas.Inhibitionassaysperformedwithsevenmono-andbisaccharidesshowedthatagglutinationofquailerythrocytesbyserumsofthreespecies(Portunuspelagicus,ScyllaserrataandSesarmasp.)werenotinhibitedbyanysugars,whileotherswereinhibitedbyatleastthreetypesofsugars.TheassayoftemperatureinfluenceonagglutinatingactivityshowedthatonlyPenaeusjaponicusretainedactivitywhentheserumwasheatedto90℃,andotherserumslosttheiractivityat40℃,50℃,60℃,70℃,80℃for10minutes,respectively.
