TheCMSCollaborationof2000scientistsinvolves150institutionsfrom31nationsspreadallovertheworld.CMSsoftwaresystemintegrationandreleasemanagementisperformedatCERN.CodemanagementisbasedonCVS,withreadorwriteaccesstotherepositoryviaaCVSserver,Softwareconfiguration,releasemanagementtools(SCRAM)arebeingdevelopedatCERN.Softwarereleasesarethendistributedtoregionalcenters,wherethesoftwareisusedbyalocalcommunityforawidevarietyoftasks,suchassoftwaredevelopmentdetectorsimulationandreconstructionandphysicsanalysis.Dependingonspecificapplication,thesystemenvironmentandlocalhardwarerequirements,differentapproachesandtoolsareusedfortheCMSsoftwareinstallationatdifferentplaces.Thispresentationdescribesconceptsandreactialsolutionsforavarietyofwaysofsoftwaredistribution,withanemphasisontheCMSexperienceatFermilab,Installationandusageofdifferentmodelsusedfortheproductionfarm,forcodedevelopmentandforphysicsanalysisaredescribed.
