Thispaperpresentsthedesign,implementationandtestingofanembeddedsystemthatintegratessolarandstorageenergyresourcestosmarthomeswithinthesmartmicrogrid.Theproposedsystemprovidestherequiredhomeenergybyinstallingrenewableenergyandstoragedevices.Italsomanagesandschedulesthepowerflowduringpeakandoff-peakperiods.Inaddition,atwo-waycommunicationprotocolisdevelopedtoenablethehomeownersandtheutilityserviceprovidertoimprovetheenergyflowandtheconsumptionefficiency.Thesystemcanbeanintegralpartforhomesinasmartgridorsmartmicrogridpowernetworks.Aprototypefortheproposedsystemwasdesigned,implementedandtestedbyusingacontrolledloadbanktosimulateascaledrandomrealhouseconsumptionbehavior.Threedifferentscenariosweretestedandtheresultsandfindingsarereported.Moreover,dataflowsecurityamongthehome,homeownersandutilityserverisdevelopedtominimizecyber-attacks.
