RodrigoRatosays“SotheAmericaneconomyneedstheworld,andtheworldneedstheAmericaneconomy”?.Forthat,itispossibletonotethattheshorthistoryofUSpolicyintheMiddleEast,includingthesuccessionofpresidential“doctrines”,fromTrumanthroughtoBushII,confirmedWashington’sappreciationofthestrategicroleoftheEasternMediterraneanandtheoilrichstatesoftheMiddleEastinthebroadercontextofUSpolicygoals.Thisinterestisduetothefactthatthisregion(MiddleEast)hasalargeofoilreservesandhugeeconomicrecourses.Thisregionholdsabout66%oftheworldoilreserves,andthisoilreservewillmaketheregiondominateforalongertimeontheglobaloilmarketandinternationaloil-producingorganizations,suchasOPEC,socontrolonthisregionhasbecomeafocusofattentiontodecision-makersintheworld,andthereisnodoubtthattheUnitedStateswasthemostprominentwhotriedtocontroltheregion.ThepurposeofthecurrentresearchistoshedlightontheUnitedStates’economicpresenceintheMiddleEastregiontounderstandhowUnitedStates’presencehasdevelopedintheregionandwhatmotiveswerebehinditspresence.
