Wereportonatargetsystemsupportingautomatedpositioningofnano-targetswithaprecisionresolutionof4μminthreedimensions.Itreliesonaconfocaldistancesensorandamicroscope.Thesystemhasbeencommissionedtopositionnanometertargetswith1Hzrepetitionrate.Integratingourprototypeintothetable-topATLAS300TW-lasersystemattheLaboratoryforExtremePhotonicsinGarching,wedemonstratetheoperationofa0.5Hzlaser-drivenprotonsourcewithashot-to-shotvariationofthemaximumenergyabout27%foralevelofconfidenceof0.95.Thereasonoflasershootingexperimentsoperatedat0.5Hzratherthan1Hzisbecausethesynchronizationbetweenthenano-foiltargetpositioningsystemandthelasertriggerneedstoimprove.
