摘要
Inthelasttwoorthreedecades,physicalactivity(PA)hasgainedincreasingrecognitionasbeingessentialformaintaininggoodhealthandimprovingqualityoflifeforallages.Childrenhavetraditionallybeenactiveinbothfreeplayandorganizedsports.However,therehasbeenarecentdeclineinthePAlevelsamongchildrenforvariousreasons.Thislifestylechangehasresultedinincreasedobesityaccompaniedbyariseindiabetesandcardiovascularriskamongotherwisehealthychildren.Theselifestylechangeshavebeenshowntobeevenmoreaproblemwhenthechildisalreadyaffectedbyachronicdisease.Duetomedicallimitationsandcontraindications,muchcaremustbetakentomakecertainthatthesechildrenareinvolvedintheappropriatevolumeandintensityofexercise.Thetypeofactivitymustalsobegivencarefulconsiderationtoavoidundueriskforthechildwhomayhaveproblemssuchaspoorbalance,limitedstrength,poorvision,orcognitivedisability.FurthercomplicationsareeithercausedorexacerbatedbylackofsufficientPA.Theprioritybeyondconcernforsafetyshouldbefocusedonensuringthehighestqualityoflifepossible.ThepurposeofthisreviewistoexaminehowPAcanbenefitchildrenwithselectedchronichealthconditions.
