Oneofthekeycomponentsofanygridarchitectureismanagingcomputeandstorageresourcesandoptimizingtheirutilization.SAMhasimplementedfeaturesthatallowittoexercisea"fairshare"and"prioritized"policyamongmanygroupsofusers.Thegoalsareasfollows:1)implementthexperimentspoliciesforresourceusagebyresearchgroupandbydataaccessmode,and2)optimizetheresourceusagetomaximizetheoverallthroughputdefinedintermsofrealdataprocessingactivity,AtthelowestlevelofSAMarchitecture,calledthestation,theSAMsystemintegratesthedatadeliveryandcachemanagementwiththejobcontrolandschedulingofthebatchsystem.Atthesite-level,forexampleatFermilab,requestsfordatafromon-sitestationsaremanagedtooptimizeMassStorageSystemresourcesandnetworkthroughput,Managementofresourcesatavariousgeographiclevelsarediscussed.
