摘要
Thelasttenyearshaveseenremarkableprogressincancerresearch.However,despitesignificantbreakthroughsintheunderstanding,prevention,andtreatmentofcancer,thediseasecontinuestoaffectmillionsofpeopleworldwide.Cancer’scomplexitycompoundedwithfinancial,policyandregulatoryroadblockshasslowedtherateofprogressbeingmadeagainstcancer.Inthispaper,wereviewafewofthemostrecentbreakthroughsthatarefuelingmedicaladvancesandbringingnewhopeforpatientsaffectedbythisdevastatingdisease.Wealsoaddressthechallengesfacingusandtheopportunitiestoacceleratefutureprogressagainstcancer.TheeffortsoftheAmericanAssociationforCancerResearch(AACR)toaddressthecancerburdenalreadyextendbeyondthebordersoftheUnitedStatesofAmerica.TheAACRiscommittedtoincreasingitseffortstostemthetideofcancerworldwidebypromotinginnovativeprograms,strategies,andinitiativesforcancerresearchersandallthoseengagedincancer-relatedbiomedicalsciencesaroundtheworld.
