Thispaperpresentsanewapproachoftheboundaryparameteridentificationofadiffusionsystem.Thesystemmodelisgovernedbyatwo-dimensionalparabolicproblem,whichinvolvesanunknownboundaryparameter.Identifiabilityoftheboundaryparameterandthenewapproacharediscussedbriefly,whichshowthatthenewapproachcanovercomenotonlytheill-posednessofthenonlinearoutputleastsquaremethodbutalsothedifficultyofnumericalcomputationofthenonlinearoutputleastsquareestimateduetotheexistenceofthelocalminimaoftheperformancefunctional,Finally,somenumericalexamplesaregiven.
